This recipe is written in Grammy's handwriting in ballpoint pen. It is dated September 1969 and is attributed to Gloria Greco.
Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup drained sauerkraut (chopped)
- Sift together all dry ingredients
- In a separate bowl, cream shortening with sugar until light and fluffy
- Add vanilla
- Add eggs one at a time
- Add dry ingredients alternating with water
- Add sauerkraut and beat thoroughly
- Pour into well-greased 13"x 9"x 2" baking pan
- Bake at 375°F for 35 minutes
