If a recipe says "untested"...

We want to post scans of all the original recipes so everyone in our family can enjoy them even if we haven't gotten around to testing each one in our modern kitchen. As we test each recipe, we will add our notes and photos to the recipes we do test and remove the note "untested" in the title. If you make one of the untested recipes, take a photo of the finished product and send us a note to let us know of your experience so we may include those in the recipes as well.

Citrus-Pineapple-Strawberry Punch (untested)

I think this recipe is written in Grammy's handwriting. It is attributed to "Jacobsen". I suspect this recipe predates 1952 because of the ingredient "strong tea". Grammy did not consume tea after 1952 when she (along with her husband and two older daughters) was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints whose members do not partake of tea or coffee.

I think this recipe would be a great way to use a large batch of strawberries that are almost too ripe.

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • juice of 6 lemons
  • 1 thin rind of a lemon
  • juice of 3 orange
  • 1 thin rind of an orange
  • 1 box of crushed strawberries
  • 1 can grated pineapple
  • 1/2 cup strong tea [I would substitute or omit this]
  • 4 cups water
  • cracked ice

Instructions:
  1. In a saucepan, cook the sugar, water and rinds for 5 minutes
  2. Strain the cooked liquid
  3. Add crushed strawberries
  4. Add the remainder of the ingredients
Makes 25 sherbet glasses full
